Early Career

James David Vance (born January 2, 1984) is an American politician, author, and venture capitalist who is the junior United States senator from Ohio. A Republican, Vance is a graduate of Yale Law School and the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Following his service in the United States Marine Corps, Vance worked as a venture capitalist at Revolution LLC and Mithril Capital Management.

Career in Government

In 2016, Vance was appointed to the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood by then-Governor John Kasich. He served on the commission until 2017. Vance was appointed to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition by President Donald Trump in 2018. He served on the council until 2021.

Senate Run

In 2021, Vance announced his candidacy for the United States Senate in the 2022 election. He won the Republican primary election in May 2022 and advanced to the general election. Vance defeated Democratic nominee Tim Ryan in the general election on November 8, 2022. He was sworn into office on January 3, 2023.
