What is Minoxidil?

Minoxidil is an over-the-counter medication used to treat hair loss. It has been used for several decades, and it is the only topical treatment that has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of androgenic alopecia (common baldness in men) and alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss).

How Does Minoxidil Work?

Minoxidil is believed to work by increasing the blood flow to hair follicles, which can promote hair growth. It is available in two strengths: 2% and 5%. The 5% strength is more effective than the 2% strength, but it is also more likely to cause side effects.

Side Effects of Minoxidil
