Biden Vows to 'Build Back Better' in First Address to Congress

President outlines ambitious agenda for economic recovery, climate change

Washington, D.C. - President Joe Biden on Wednesday night delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress, outlining an ambitious agenda for economic recovery and addressing the challenges of climate change.

In his speech, Biden called for a "Build Back Better" plan that would invest $2 trillion in infrastructure, clean energy, and manufacturing. He also proposed a $1.8 trillion plan for education and childcare, and called for raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

"We have to build back better," Biden said. "We have to build back an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few."

Biden also addressed the issue of climate change, calling it "an existential threat" to the planet. He pledged to rejoin the Paris Agreement, and set a goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

"We have a moral obligation to act on climate change," Biden said. "We have a moral obligation to our children and grandchildren."
