The Temple is a Sacred Place

Jesus was angry because the people were using the temple for business and disregarding its sacred nature. He made a whip of cords and drove the money changers out of the temple courtyard. Jesus overturned the tables of the money changers and scattered the coins of the merchants.

Jesus Teaches a Lesson

Jesus' actions taught the people that the temple was not a place for making money. It was a place for people to come to worship God. Jesus' actions also showed that he was willing to stand up for what he believed in. He was not afraid to challenge the authority of the religious leaders.
